Dental Assistants, or Certified Dental Assistants, are responsible for providing hands-on support to Dentists and completing prep work so they can more efficiently care for patients. Their duties include completing intake paperwork and updating patient records, sterilizing and organizing dental tools and assisting during dental procedures.
Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Screening patients during checkups
- Reviewing a patient’s dental history
- Recommending care to improve a patient’s oral health
- Teaching patients about proper teeth cleaning techniques
- Performing preventive dental care
- Applying fluoride treatments
- Taking x-rays and reviewing them for signs of dental diseases
Primary duties may include:
- Provide instrument and operative infection control
- Prepare instrument trays
- Instruct patients on proper oral hygiene and post treatment care
Qualifications:
- Complete state required Dental Hygienist training
- Possess current, applicable licensure/registration as required on a state-by-state basis
- Retain X-ray certification or state registration to practice as a Dental Hygienist
- Prefer other certifications such as EFDA, RFC, EFODA, or CADA/ADA; not required
- Have training infection control and use of personal protective equipment
- Must have six (6) months current experience as a DA required
- Require verbal and written skills in English
- May be required to pass a drug test, if allowed by state law
- Successfully pass a background check
Job function requirements:
- Able to stand eight (8) to 12 hours per work schedule. Able to lift up to 50 pounds on occasion
- Must have reliable transportation
- Dress appropriately for the healthcare setting by wearing modest attire with minimal accessories that include sturdy, closed toe shoes. Hair should be styled for the professional work environment
